Register A Watch (continued)

Step 2

Number of residences in your watch

Congratulations on taking the right steps to start a Neighbourhood Watch in your community! Once your registration information has been reviewed, the Neighbourhood Watch Programs Coordinator will contact you to ensure you have reviewed the resource material and discuss canvassing options.

Canvassing your Watch area is necessary to recruit members for your Neighbourhood Watch; typically 10-15 houses to ensure it is not overwhelming.

Step 3

Once you have an established Watch size and your neighbours have been canvassed, a Set-up Meeting will take place at an appropriate time and location agreed upon with your Watch members.

The Safe City Mississauga Neighbourhood Watch Program Coordinator will attend the meeting and present their findings on a CPTED (Crime Prevention through Environmental Design) Site Review that has been conducted in your neighbourhood. Also in attendance will be a member of Peel Regional Police who will be available to answer questions.

Step 4

Once steps 1-3 are complete, your Watch will be Active! You will be responsible for looking out for one another in your community and reporting any strange incidents or behaviour and crime incidents in your neighbourhood.

Neighbourhood Watch will provide you with benefits and services such as crime statistics on a monthly basis so you are aware of what’s happening in your community.

Once your Watch has been setup, we will have our team implement Neighbourhood Watch signage and decals (Neighbourhood Watch Stickers) in your community to let potential offenders know that the premises are protected by Neighbourhood Watch. They are far less likely to want to commit a crime in an area where they know they will be seen and get caught.
